Each of the divided regions of Alberta Units in several Wildlife Management (WMUs). These WMUs are what determines the open season in the area, and Alberta regulations are set up so that Hunters can easily see what species have open stations in the area you are hunting.
As with other provinces, hunters from outside Canada wishing hunting in Alberta must obtain the services of a licensed guide or host to do so. Nonresidents should carefully review the regulations to ensure they have all necessary licenses before heading out to hunt. Canada hunting equipment suppliers are aware of the needs of the license and can help you plan your search.
The following is a description of each of the areas for hunting in Alberta and the type of game that can be hunted there.
Prairie WMUs
The Prairie region Alberta is located in the southeast corner of the province. This is a continuation of the Great Plains of the United States and open meadows that can also be found in Saskatchewan. white-tailed deer and mule has a hunting season throughout the prairie region for both types of antlers and horns. Moose also have a fishing season in the northern the prairie region, while most southern WMUs moose have an open season. Again, some of the WMUs have both antlers and horns stations for large ungulates, while others are single sex. Hunters looking for more exotic game in the prairie region can apply for a permit antelope.
Along the prairie region, there are limitations on when a hunter can get, generally, hunting is allowed only on certain days of the week and there is a general ban on Sunday hunting.
Parkland Region

Although the human population is high, the big game species thrive in this area especially deer. The abundance of deer means there's a long season in both antlers and horns in the region, with the notable exception of WMUs 728 and 729, where there is a season general open deer. Hunters can also harvest black bear, elk, and moose in most of the region. Alberta Whitetail guides

There are stations open in white-tailed and mule deer, elk, moose, black bear, bighorn sheep and cougar in most WMUs. Hunters also may apply for a tie that allows a permit to hunt mountain sheep.
Foothills Region
The region includes Alberta Foothills areas, where high mountain altitudes of the Rockies fall abruptly to the flat prairie and park areas. The region is characterized by a large number of marshes and wetlands and human low resolution, including some agricultural activities.
Because the mountain species often can be found in foothill areas, big game hunting in the Piedmont region are very similar to those found in the mountainous region, which reflected by the fishing season.
