Legal turkey hunting In Illinois and Recommendations Location?

Hi all, I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I legally own a gun and obviously has a FOID card. I've always wanted to go turkey hunting and want to know what types of permits / licenses and stamps I need, where you can get and how much. Also, I'd love to hear the recommendations and suggestions. Especially places on the property. Starved Rock area I was thinking, maybe Matthiessen State Park? Thanks!

Hey man, I am from the Lake County area, north of you. IL is a state very hard to start the game in. There is not much land public within three hours of us and all that exists is going to be full of other hunters. Wisconsin has millions of acres of public lands that are full of turkey. No I will give any of my sites but one hour drive to a place in Walworth County, WI. and every morning the opening of the last 5 years, my father and I have come a bird. An out of state license is more expensive, but their experience definitely worth it. All legal information can be found on page WDNR web. own laws too many to list for you here. Call Gander Mountain if you have any questions. It may seem confusing at first but once you understand it, all common sense. WDNR website also has a map of all public lands in the state. As for advice, read a lot and see a lot of tapes on turkey hunting. SA has a strut DVD called "So You Want to Be a Turkey Hunter" and that's where I learned the basics. After learning the basics, you need to get in the woods and do as much exploration as possible. That is the most important. I could go on and on about turkey hunting because it is truly my favorite animal to hunt. It is a great time and it is an experience you never forget. The technical aspects can seem overwhelming but please go through all these things and make it legal. I promise that I will worthwhile.
