Where are the hunting grounds for turkey? my location is san jose, ca. any turkey hunting grounds in california will be appreciated. please give the name of the place, location (what city). please tell me the ones in california. Just the name would be fin too.

Here is the best I could find. It is kinda old but it may help you.

Del Norte County has a growing population of wild turkeys. Hunters should check out the area just east of Crescent City in the Six Rivers National Forest.

The southern section of Humboldt County has turkeys. They’ve been spotted east of Garberville.

Shasta County has long been a turkey stronghold. The hills above Lake Shasta are a popular area.

Areas such as Backbone Ridge and the Pit River Arm offer excellent hunting.

Plumas County has a good population of the birds. Turkeys are widely scattered in the western portion of the county.

The national forest around Lake Oroville has a large population of wild turkeys. Check the Berry Creek area.

Tehama County is a loaded with turkeys. The Tehama State Wildlife Area has an excellent population of the big birds.

Try Hogsback Road. Turkeys can be found near Black Butte Reservoir. The area east of Ruth Lake has had turkeys for a number of years.

The birds are widely scattered and holding their own. Turkeys can be found throughout the Platina area.

Glenn County is another excellent choice. Turkeys are widely spread in the eastern section of the county on the BLM lands.

Mendocino County is home to hundreds of turkeys.

The Mendocino National Forest east of Covelo holds both Rio Grandes and Merriam’s.

Check out the Mendocino Pass area. Turkeys are now established in the Jackson State Forest.

Lake County is now considered one of the top wild turkey areas in the state.

The Cache Creek Wildlife Area in eastern Lake County is prime turkey country. The BLM land called the Payne Ranch also has a large turkey population.

The Mendocino National Forest from Upper Lake to Lake Pillsbury is excellent for turkeys.

Nevada County has a large population of turkeys.

While most of the better turkey hunting is on private property, a portion of the Spenceville State Wildlife Area is located in western Nevada County.

Another good turkey area is the national forest just east of Nevada City.

Yuba County is located in the heart of turkey country.

The Spenceville State Wildlife Area is considered to be one of the best public areas to bag a trophy tom.

The Daugherty Hill Wildlife Area (located next to Collins Lake) is also excellent for turkeys.

In recent years Placer County has become an excellent choice for wild turkeys. The Auburn State Recreation Area has a growing population.

The foothills in El Dorado County have a large population of turkeys. A popular area is the national forest near Georgetown.

Napa County has loads of turkeys.

In fact, there are so many that local vineyard owners have been given depredation permits to shoot the birds.

Most of the prime turkey land is on private land, but the Knoxville State Wildlife Area (located near Lake Berryessa) offers a good chance to bag a gobbler.

Toulumne County is not noted for its turkey hunting, but it does offer a decent chance of success near New Melones Lake.

If you can permission from a local landowner, the chance of success will skyrocket.

Mariposa County has a small but growing turkey population. The best areas are near Lake McClure in the national forest.

Monterey County has plenty of turkeys but not much public land. The best public land is the Los Padres National Forest.

Hunt the western section of the national forest.

San Luis Obispo County was one of the places in California where wild turkeys were first planted.

The local ranches are loaded with the birds, but there are few public areas to hunt.

One of the better public areas is the Los Padres National Forest near La Questa Summit.

Kern County doesn’t have a large population of turkeys, but the area around Lake Isabella is worth a try.

Santa Barbara County has a small but stable population of turkeys. The best chance for the freelance hunter is the Los Padres National Forest.

San Diego County has a growing population of turkeys. The best areas are in the Cleveland National Forest. Concentrate on the lower elevations.
