How do I hunt for pheasant in a forest?

I have many times seen and heard pheasants close to my house, but there isn’t any fields nearby, what tactics can I use to hunt these and what should I think of, and where does pheasants usually hide in forest/small field/swamps?

By the way, I do not have a dog, and I think that would be unnecessary in these areas.
