We boarded Polar Princess this morning and have traveled from Moosonee on James Bay and are now returning to visit the island of Moose Factory before returning to Moosonee. Our tour of the island is beginning.

Upon arrival at the dock of the island we walked a short distance to a bus. Here too, the roads are dirt. Our guide, Rachel *, told us a little about the island before the start of the bus because she would be unable to talk about the noise. The hospital is heated by steam, along with housing for health professionals. A diesel engine powers the steam pipes connected to 6 inches into the air, the steam delivery to the hospital and housing for staff. This reminded me of telephone and electrical wires hanging from poles.

This hospital serves the communities of up to 300 miles north, fell from 600 in the past. Emergency medical technicians in Moosonee, although they have MD to perform such services, while a patient is transported from the continent to the hospital of the island. Patients are transported by the river during the summer and ice road during winter. The months of freezing and spring break to demand a helicopter to transport a patient. There is a helipad near the hospital.

The spring can cause flooding in the island residents to tie the canoe to his home in case the need to escape there. When the Company Hudson's Bay first established the island as their "headquarters of the New World" of workers built a church, the Anglican Church was built. Still exists but is locked, needing repairs. I would have liked to visit the church.

After the church was built the spring flood came, the lifting of the church from its foundation. Do not want to lose their house of worship of employees rose to their canoes, ropes attached to the building and pulled him back. This time, drilled holes in the ground to support it. If there is a flood that can pull of the candles to drain the water, saving the church. The plans have been requested to be preserved as heritage. Hopefully that will happen.

Our first stop was an Interpretation Center Creek. Several tepees were seen. The first was a summer built of birch bark. Would be in possession up to six family members. Other was long enough for four families. Rocks line up in a place where cooking took place.

Another tepee is only used for cooking after a of hunting. A meeting room that looked like a tent outside of about 50 square meters. It was used for meetings, weddings and other community activities. The center has several skins of animals such as wolf, fox and moose, which are interesting. From there we went through residential areas. Rachel * said the tipis in the yards of many where the game is cooked after a hunt.

The house where the staff of Hudson Bay had lived part of the tour. Was of several bedrooms, sleeping downstairs now show, one bedroom, tool room, the doctors' lounge. All rooms have different historical themes sample of the time. A nearby cemetery, which I entered, but not really investigate.

This tour was ending as we returned to the dock. Back on the mainland who both received certificates indicating that we have "braved the drizzle of James Bay and sprayed with salt water in the Arctic." It is dated and signed by the guide and the captain, identified as "tidewatcher years of age" and the "ye old captain."

We went back to bed and breakfast to relax in the comfort of the room with the "community" comfortable chairs and relaxing. About 4:30 we went to the Catholic Church to see its stained glass of colors, including the bishops, the pope, Jesus, and a unique picture of a moose.

Then we went to the train station, met with our new friends, visited until 5:30 when we get on board for 5-hours round trip to Cochrane. See one of the participants concluded the evening and the expedition to Moosonee.
