moose hunting nova scotia

Can i get sick with “mad cow disease” by eating wild moose?
My friend went hunting in nova scotia & cought a 1200lb moose and a 900lb bear. I wanna know if I can get mad cow disease from eating eather of those ?
The only way you could get a mad cow type disease is by ingesting meat that has come in contact with the animal’s cerebrospinal fluid. These diseases are diseases of the nervous system and do not affect that actual meat that you would normally eat. As long as the animal was properly field dressed and butchered and the meet was prepared correctly, you should be ok.
If you are still worried, you can try to find out from the wildlife management in the area where the animals were killed to see if they have any reports of animals being seen or harvested that showed signs of the disease.
