What kind of rifle do you use for whitetail?

Around where i live you can only use bows, slug guns and muzzleloaders. Our hunting party owns property way up north where we hunt moose and black bear and wolf so i have a 30-06 semi auto. One guy in our party owns property past the french river which means whitetail rifle hunts, so were all putting money into his ranch so we each own a piece of it. I want to purchase a rifle i can use on whitetail. I prefer bolt action rifles over semi autos but my 30-06 was given to me. So i want to get a good bolt action whitetail gun. I was just wondering what you all use on whitetail? Caliber? Model? scope? bullet?

Im thinking of getting either a 243. win, or a 270. win, in either a Browning A-Bolt, or Browning X-Bolt or maybe a Sako A7 or something.

Can’t hunt whitetails in OR except for a couple of special permit hunts. We have Columbia Blacktail west of the Cascade Mtns. and Mule deer to the east. I use a Browning A-Bolt in .30-06 Springfield. Scope is a 2.5-10 Tasco that my dad bought & put on it before giving it to me. I’m currently using 180gr Nosler Accubond handloads but I had no luck on the 4 days I got to go out last season. I have used 165gr & 180gr Nosler Partitions in the past and they always gave excellent performance every time at short to long ranges.

The .270 Winchester or a 7mm-08 Remington would be my choice for a deer specific rifle. Brownings are great and SAKO and Tikka are both very good choices. Personally I’d also be going with a 2.5-8 or 3-9 power scope with no more then a 40mm diameter objective lens.
