What do you think one of the best bullets of this caliber?
My plan is to reload for my new 25-06. I live in northern Alberta. I am looking for a bullet that I can actually take deer, elk, BLCK Bear and elk in your case, but I doubt moose. a deer an elk stufs, I was leaning towards the 117gr and 120gr. Me also said that 115gr soft points are very good. I also bought my Hornady load of material, now I get 500 rounds out of my choice. the only problem is 25. the gauge they have is 100 grains. so if you could use these for? I was thinking about wolf hunting in December, but 500 is still a lot of bullets … oh, and names mark would be appreiciated
25-06 is pretty marginal for elk, bears or moose — not saying it is not possible, but even with a 117 or 120 grain bullets do not have much mass penetration or margin for error. Only then I would suggest a 25-06 for anything larger than deer is with a Barnes Triple Shock, Nosler partition or Accu-Bond (Ballistic Tips are too soft), Speer Bonded Bear Claw. If you could get the Hornady SST in Interbond 117-120 would be better than a cup and core no central bonded. You really need a premium bullet. If you get stuck with 100 grain bullets can be used for deer and coyote, not an elk or bear. Not Hornady Promo I have the information before me, but I thought you could get a set to die instead of bullets, if you have the recharge kit. 115 soft spots not going to do the job well – to shed too much mass and expand too fast for the penetration of animals 500-1000 lbs moose — needs more mass passing through a cross section thicker than 160 pounds would be a deer. Therefore, the Barnes and recommended partitions that have the foreseeable expansion and maintain 90-100% weight. I know I'm echoing what Chris said, especially because I've seen enough of poor shot selection and use, and have seen what a Barnes or Nosler can make even with Cape Buffalo and Bison in the appropriate size.
