What’s ya’lls opion on what the best Hog hunting round/rifle is?

Hog hunting is generally a short-range affair, and the only problems you’ll need to address are that you want a bullet with adequate penetration on any shot you’d take; and you want a rifle that’ll be handy in the thick stuff, both because hogs tend to stay near cover, and because a wounded hog will almost always head for the thickest spot he can get to when he lays up. Almost any cartridge from 25 caliber on up will do, but I’ve found it best to use a bullet of sectional density .24 or greater in small-bores. Forty-something caliber handgun calibers will also do well, and with sectional densities of .175 or greater in those calibers. Revolvers and carbines have a bit of an advantage over full-length rifles in general. One of my favorites is a Winchester 71 carbine. An old classmate has what I consider nearly ideal, if overly expensive: a side-by-side in 8x57JRS regulated for 196 grain bullets. One of my kids has a Remington 7 in 7mm08. And one old-timer for whom I have a lot of respect (I won’t mention his name here, but he’s a fairly well-known gunsmith and builder of fine arms) likes an old cavalry-model trapdoor Springfield!
