hog hunting license texas

Have you ever been feral hog hunting?
My buddy lives in Texas and clains to hunt them with a .22 air rifle, like they do on some videos made by Gamo. I don’t believe he actually has been hunting for feral hogs before. I have a 38 special by Comanche (cheap Argentine revolver with 3″ barrel) for concealed carry in PA. How can I get this to Texas? Will Texas recognize my permit, as a visitor? If not, should I pick up some cheap rifle in order to finish off the hog when it attacks us? I’m thinking a 22 WMR might be enough and possible to find a used one for about $150. Since the hog is a varmint, and on private property, I assume I don’t need a license. All you Texas hog hunters, please advise. Thanks.
Rascal I hunt and live here in Texas, feral hogs are hunted year round here. All you need is an out of state hunting license and a place to go. I’ve hunted hogs with a rifle, shotgun, handgun, knife, spear, and bow. As too your buddy saying he shot hogs with a 22LR, its done all the time. We set hog traps in corn and milo fields so the hogs get run into a winding circle trap, from there we take the 80- 120 pound hogs and run them into a slip panel, take a 22LR slip it into their ear and dead hog. Those are then gutted and given to charities, the 125 or bigger hogs we have a buyer for who then turns them loose for you northern boys to come down here and spend your money on. The small ones are most of time let go.
I wouldn’t reccomend using a 22LR for hogs that weren’t pinned or trapped, they tend to get an attitude when getting shot. If you get to come down here have your buddy hook you up with a dog and knife hunt. Thats about the most exciting hog hunt you can do, we take a group of dogs that will track and corner a hog, slip up on their back leg, jam your knife up through the side of the ribs and stomach through the diapram into the heart and push down as you come out. The trick then is to get back without getting a tusk through your leg. If your not into that then handgun hunting at night with a spot light on baited roads, rifle hunting from a stand or ledge, or you can load up on buckshot and walk the milo and corn fileds and hunt them like quail.
Long story short, we have a growing problem with feral hogs here in Texas, come on down and get you some. Good luck and good hunting.
