How Important is camouflage?
I know it’s a good idea to not looking like a disco ball while bear hunting, but how important is it to buy camo that MATCHES the environment?
Can the green military camo do?
I’m sure it depends on what I’m going to hunt. I’m in georgia, and there’s not really a whole lot to choose from.
Well, deer are color blind, but I’m not sure about black bears. Those would be my options of hunt by the way.
I have some BDU’s and the ACU’s.
I was looking at http://www.realtree.com/camo/ and there are soo many designs to choose from. Also is that scent lock important? Some people swear that all that stuff is a waste of money while other’s will swear that if you want to do more than watch the trees, you better wear it.
I’m concerned with keeping warm and making sure I acutally hunt an animal, not the weather.
Many hunters will spend hundred’s of dollars on cammo to make them blend in so they can’t be seen. Just to put a big orange vest and hat on so they can be seen. Think about it.
Notice a deer. There are no prints of limbs and leaves on their backs but they will disappear with nothing in front of them.
It is more important to be still when deer hunting and to be down wind. I have killed many deer wearing bluejeans and flannel.
I have been spotted many times wearing camo. Although I do wear camo while hunting it is a little better than regular clothes.
As some have said scent is overrated. I can some what agree. Use unscented soaps (I use lye soap) and detergents for washing you hunting clothes (I use 20 mule team borax. I learned this from Tom Miranda). All you can do you still will be human and smell like a human when your finished. Hunt down wind and do not walk on deer trails.
Clothing that are silent are most important. I once was bow hunting and had a deer walk past me never seeing me, I was wearing camo. It was a very quiet and still morning. When I went to draw my bow back the deer heard my sleves moving. It ran away.
More often though the clothes you need to stay warm and dry are the cammo hunting clothes. I wear Carrhartt around the house and to town but I am very strongly against dressing the same color as a deer when I go hunting. I once had a man walking through the woods my direction wearing brown Carhartt while blowing a grunt call. I was ready for a big buck I saw the brown and could hear the stomping and grunting. I had my gun raised ready for the “buck” to come out in the clear. It turned out to be a man. Some irresponsible hunters would have shot when they thought they saw a deer, not making sure. That man could have died.
