Is it illegal to hunt with (or have) a crossbow in New york?

Not so much that its ILLEGAL as much as i want to know why you can’t hunt with them in NY. It seems Bow hunters associations are also opposed to them, and i wonder why. (especially since it doesn’t seem much different than a rifle or anything).

It is illegal. I asked my dad about it and he said that if you are elderly, incapable of pulling a regular bow back, or handicap you are allowed to legally hunt NYS (All counties) with cross bow. It is quite unfair to hunt with them. It is like using a gun during bow season. My family is very strict with laws and bettering the sport and safety of hunting, so follow the laws and regulations and hunt safely. Good luck
