I have a friend who needs bow hunting supplies and I know nothing about such things… LOL.. could you give me “the idiots guide to buying bow hunting supplies?”

Thanks! icon smile bow hunting necessities
I should say he is an experienced hunter, but the person buying some supplies for him (me) is an idiot when it comes to hunting… would you please list the “things” he would need?
shhh.. Lulu.. don’t tell James.. haha.. his birthday is coming… LOL.. and it’s a secret… shhh…
Thanks John, he is a hunter, but hasn’t gone for quite awhile and has given away most of his things.. he’s wanting to get back at it now though, and I’m trying to help icon smile bow hunting necessities

I’m with “ole max” on this — a gift certificate. That way he will be able to get what HE knows he needs. You could do it this way: buy the bow, after finding out what kind/type to get, and then give him a gift certificate for arrows. Most likely, it’ll be a compound bow, and once it is adjusted to what he needs he will need to get arrows made for the bow/his draw length.

That way, you won’t have to worry about getting the right arrows to go with the bow — and if you give him a gift certificate for a bow as well, you won’t have to worry about getting the right bow, either.

Things you can get for him (assuming you do know his shoe size, etc) without having to know anything (or not much) about hunting:
–Boots (appropriate for the area/hunting conditions – and they don’t necessarily have to be made specifically for hunting)
–Thermal underwear (yes, it does get cold when you sit still for hours in November/December)
–QUIET, non-bulky hunting clothes (certain fabrics actually do make a lot of noise…especially when it rubs against a tree!). It should be non-bulky because looking like the Michelin Man just isn’t going to be good (he might be warm, but he won’t be able to move if it’s too bulky). Also, it helps if the clothing is warm. I recommend wool, if he can wear it; it is warm and quiet, and is often non-bulky (been used for thousands of years with excellent results….)
–A compass, for when he’s out in the woods and “forgets” which way is home. It’s easy to get turned around when it’s dark, especially in the woods, even with a good light. I’ve done it too many times to believe otherwise…..
–A good sheath (belt) knife, for skinning/dressing any deer he happens to get. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just functional — although fancy is nice.
–All the love, understanding and support you can possibly muster. It might be the most important thing you can give him. icon smile bow hunting necessities

There are probably more things you could get for him, but these should do as a start. icon smile bow hunting necessities
