It is a 20-gauge shotgun loaded with # 2 Buckshot enough wild pigs?
I'm going out for a pig hunting trip in California in a couple of weeks I have a friend who wants to come with me. Unfortunately I have only one big hole rifle. But I have a 20-gauge shotgun and bought some Federal Vital-Shok # 2 Buck. I that will be enough, am I right? If sufficient, within what range can be reasonably expected to end with a pig? 50 meters? Also I have some Winchester striatum slugs, I'm sure it would work like a charm, but my gun is not appropriate places for slugs yet. I have no experience in hunting with a shotgun, so I do not know, so I can clue you in.
Will have a pig for a closer, not 50 yards. That would not be human to take a shot (50 yards with # 2). I would use slugs. If not slugs then 0 Buck, Buck 00, or 000 Buck with a total or modified by strangulation. Its range of truth would be 40 to 45 meters maximum. Yes, you can kill anything beyond that, but the pattern was deployed a little further you get out of this range. This is only general information, and you should pattern the gun with the loads to verify … who knows you may find that you can get more out of it.
