pheasant hunting jacket

What do people usually wear pheasant and other gamebird hunting?

New hunter here. What does one usually wear gamebird hunting, or pheasant hunting in particular? I notice wal-mart has “upland game shirts”/”upland vests” for sale (tan color with safety orange patches). Is this the norm? Would I look like a complete idiot if I wore some deer hunting garb? (a camo jacket with an orange vest)? I’m not asking so much for vanity value but what’s functional and what will work out on the field. thanks for the help!

“Upland game shirts” are simply shirts with gusseted backs and shoulders to allow more freedom of movement to swing a shotgun on the bird. (It’s not required)

The vest is used to carry birds that you’ve shot along with extra shotgun shells and the orange is obviously for safety.

Lots of hunters wear camo jackets with just a blaze vest (assuming the vest has a (bloodproof) game pocket in it for the birds)

No need to go “fancy”…..just make it functional

Wear comfortable pants and shoes/boots as you’ll be doing a lot of walking.

Good luck and good hunting -
